Music Charts Magazine® Presents

Pete Agnew of “Nazareth

Nazareth are a Scottish hard rock band, founded in 1968, that had several hits in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and established an international audience with their 1975 album Hair of the Dog. Their best-known hit single was a cover of the ballad “Love Hurts”, in 1975.

East End Park, Dunfermline will host Legends of Rock on Saturday 30th May 2015. TICKETS ON SALE NOW - Nazareth - Big Country - Hurricane Road - special guest announcedAt their peak, Nazareth were huge, selling vast quantities of albums and hit singles, pulling in enormous crowds to their shows all over the world.

Like all the best bands, Nazareth came from humble roots. They formed in Dunfermline, Scotland, and played the Scottish clubs throughout the 1960’s in their original incarnation as the Shadettes. The name change to Nazareth came in 1970 and in 1971 the band moved to London to start what was to become a long and illustrious recording career.

Even with the passage of time and line-up changes, Nazareth are routinely hailed as that rare thing – pioneers who became legends in their own lifetimes.

2015 sees them back on the road featuring new singer Carl Sentance (Don Airey (Deep Purple) & Friends, Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), Krokus, Tokyo Blade and Persian Risk) , standing proudly alongside founder member Pete Agnew (bass) and long time band members Jimmy Murrison (guitars) and Lee Agnew (drums).

Since Dan McCafferty’s retirement in 2013 due to ill health the band had searched for a new singer and briefly appointed a local man from their hometown (Linton Osborne) to the role but this didn’t work out to everyone’s satisfaction so, after eight months the search was back on.

Then they found Carl.

Pete Agnew says “We had been looking at Carl from afar for some time and very much liked what we saw and heard so we asked him to come and sing a couple of songs with us in the studio. He came in and completely blew us away in the space of half a song and was offered and accepted the job right there and then.”

Carl is currently touring with Don Airey (Deep Purple) & Friends and takes up singing duties with Nazareth in April.

As that witness to Carl’s audition said – “When this lot hit the stage, sparks are gonna fly!”.

Music Charts Magazine® Proudly Presents

“Tiffany”

Tiffany Renee Darwish (born October 2, 1971) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and former teen icon. She is most notable for her 1987 cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”, originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967. Released as the second single from her eponymous album, Tiffany, the song quickly became a teen anthem. Thanks to an original mall tour, “The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour ’87”, Tiffany found commercial success; both the single and the album peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts, respectively. The singles, “Could’ve Been” and “I Saw Him Standing There”, a cover version of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There”, followed soon after, with the former also claiming the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100.

Music Charts Magazine® Proudly Presents Tiffany - A Celebrity Audio InterviewTIFFANY is back! …to her roots. The dynamic voice of the 80s has returned to where it all started for her, country music and the Nashville music scene. Now a critically praised songwriter, Tiffany is set to capture your hearts again with her new album “Rose Tattoo”.

She recently starred in 2 Highly Rated SyFy Channel TV Movies (Mega Piranha & Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid), stars in a national commercial with Meatloaf, & appeared on the CBS TV shows “The Young & the Restless” & “How I Met Your Mother.”

Once upon a time in the 1980s, a little girl came to Nashville from her hometown of Norwalk, Calif., with dreams of becoming a country singer. She was raised on a steady diet of Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline, and by age 9 was performing their songs with her own band. The following year she was discovered by legendary country songwriters Hoyt and Mae Axton, and earned an invitation to perform in Music City on The Ralph Emery Show. Things didn’t work out as she’d hoped back then, but three years ago that same little girl—now all grown up, with a family of her own—returned to Nashville for good, determined to make her long-deferred dream come true.

A heck of a lot happened in between. Instead of finding a home in the country world, the teenage Tiffany instead became a pop superstar. She sold more than 15 million albums worldwide and scored hits like “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Could’ve Been” and “All This Time.” But she did so as her manager dictated the songs that she sang—none of which she had a hand in writing. “I’ve always had to fight to be me,” she says now. “I spent most of my career in the early days feeling like people thought I was manufactured, like I was a gimmick—but my voice was real.” Now Tiffany’s voice—literally and figuratively—can be heard at its finest on Rose Tattoo, her eighth studio album and the first to fully explore her country music roots. “It’s come full circle,” she says.

Tiffany took the long way around that circle, to be sure. Exploring opportunities as they arose: there were two critically acclaimed singer-songwriter albums, 2000’s The Color of Silence and 2007’s Just Me; a successful stint on the TV reality competition Hit Me Baby One More Time; and an acting career in projects like the recent tongue-in-cheek monster flick Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid (co-starring fellow ‘80s teen icon Debbie Gibson). Perhaps most significant was her foray into dance music, which yielded three hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. But as pressure grew to build on her rapidly growing reputation as a dance diva, Tiffany remained determined to follow her heart to Nashville. “It was fun,” she says, “but that’s not my life.”

So three years ago, Tiffany, Elijah and her husband Benn George put down stakes in the Nashville area. “When IMusic Charts Magazine® Proudly Presents Pop music superstar teen idol Tiffany came to town I had black hair, so nobody recognized me,” says the famously red-tressed singer. “I went to songwriting showcases and just chilled and watched people. I took the temperature of the town.” She began writing with local songwriters and performing at low-key writers’-night events, gradually convincing local skeptics of her commitment to the genre. As she wrote the songs that would become Rose Tattoo, she reconnected with the reasons she loved country music in the first place. “Country artists are never bigger than their fans,” she explains. “My niche is writing about real life—experiences, heartbreak, seeing your child grow up, all of those real things that me and my fans are going through now.”

Finally, she felt confident enough to start work on a new album of her own. She discovered producer Chris Roberts through her friend and fellow singer-songwriter Lindsay Lawler (who duets on the album’s raucous “Crazy Girls”). The two set up shop at East Nashville’s Yackland Studio armed with some of the city’s finest musicians and a clear creative vision. “Chris and I talked about what I heard on every song, what the direction was,” she says. “It’s like Little Big Town meets Stevie Ray Vaughn with a little bit of Fleetwood Mac.”

Music Charts Magazine® Proudly Presents - Tiffany - Rose Tattoo - New Country Music Album from Pop superstar TiffanyMix all that up and you have Rose Tattoo—a warm, buoyant album that finds Tiffany sounding entirely herself and entirely at home. This is music that is close to the heart, right down to the album title—a tribute to both the Rose Tattoo nightclub where she learned her craft onstage as a youngster, and to the actual rose tattoo she got as a rebellious teen. “He’s All Man” bursts with the joy of love, while “He Won’t Miss Me” addresses the pain of divorce; the aptly titled “Feel the Music” is a tribute to the power of song, and Tiffany shows a sultry side on come-hither cuts like “Love All Over You” and “Love You Good.” The buoyant “Just That Girl” is Tiffany’s clearest statement of principle yet, showcasing both her vulnerability and her strength—and her charmingly self-deprecating sense of humor. “I’m the girl that walks the red carpet with toilet paper on her shoe,” she says with a chuckle. “I look at other artists and everything’s so glossy and fabulous. I don’t know that life. I’m still trying to find my footing—in love, in business, in everything. I’ve learned to laugh about it and to be comfortable with myself.”

Throughout Rose Tattoo, Tiffany introduces herself to a new audience while showing longtime fans a side of her they may have never seen—and she’s just getting started. “I’m not going backwards,” she says. “I feel like I’ve really come into my own. This is my sound. This feels good, it feels like my home now. I wanted it to be home for so long, and now I’m not going anywhere.”

Kayla Calabrese - January 2015 - Music Charts Magazine® Proudly Presents NEW DISCOVERY

Kayla Calabrese, country’s newest fierce full-blood Italian and hopeless romantic, brings presteige beyond her years to the present female country mold. This Jersey girl brings vulnerability, strength and determination along with the New Jersey spirit and attitude to her music.

“I didn’t grow up singing, I actually thought country music was not ‘cool’ ,” laughs Kayla. This ambitious girl had many different dream jobs from being a veterinarian, to a doctor, to even a police officer. Deep down this hopeful artist wanted to let her inner star shine, so any chance she got, this sly girl would grab her mother’s video recorder and tape herself singing, watch it, and erase it before anyone else for the chance to see it.

“One of my favorite singers is Martina McBride” smiles Kayla. “My mom and I went on a scavenger hunt to find some tickets to a Martina McBride show. We went all over Reading, PA and finally figured out that they were in a CVS. I ran inside and found the tickets behind some greeting cards. My mom and I started jumping up and down screaming. Some random people joined us and said, ‘We don’t know why you are so excited, but we are excited too!’ It was so much fun to find those tickets!”

At age 16 while in the Big Apple watching the original cast of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre, Kayla’s secret dream became a reality. Captivated by the singing and pure joy that was shown through the performance, Kayla wanted to begin the chase for her dream. No longer bound by a secret dream Kayla asked her mother for voice lessons and at 17 the journey began.

Shortly after Kayla, her dog Abbie, and her country stardom dreams headed south to Nashville. With encouragement from Renegade Radio Nashville founder Captain Jack, Kayla mustered up the courage to seek help from renowned music producer Kent Wells (Dolly Parton, Neal McCoy). “Kent taught me so many things that I did not even realize I needed to know about music and recording.” recalled Kayla.

The process of producing Kayla’s first EP began in February of 2012 with getting her songs written. She finished writing her 6 song EP, the last song ‘Did You Feel That’ was finished at 11pm the night before she began. “I love how so many country songs tell a story, so I was excited when Kent wanted to put this song on the EP because it was my story-telling song.” said Kayla. After almost a year of production this self-motivated young woman has her first EP and her current single “Kiss Me” is currently on country radio.

In the midst of chasing her dream, this hard working and tenacious girl attended school at Belmont University. Along with school and singing, Kayla worked as a nurse’s tech at Baptist Hospital and as a gymnastics teacher. This past May, Kayla graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She recently passed her state licensing exam, meaning she is Kayla Calabrese-RN!

Kayla’s dream nursing job would be to work in the neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She and her twin brother, Ryan, were both preemies. Weighing only 3lbs 9oz when she was born, Kayla has a soft spot for premature babies. Sweet-hearted Kayla loves knowing that she is making a difference in someone’s life and that is why nursing suits her well.

In her spare time, Kayla enjoys being outside. Growing up only 20 minutes from the beach she loves the water and the sand. She also enjoys living a clean and healthy lifestyle. Making sure she works out, eats several small balanced meals throughout the day, and drinking pleanty of water is very important to her daily lifestyle. Even though being healthy is important, sometimes this Italian girl likes to splurge on her favorite dishes. “If I go home for a visit the first thing I get to eat is thin crust pizza! I also love to go to Carmine’s in New York City for their raviolo dish!” Kayla also enjoys cooking her native Italian food. “One time I was making lasagna for my old boyfriend and myself and it didn’t exactly turn out like I thought. I had worked on it all day and was about to get it out of the oven when he asked ‘do you need some help?’ Being the independent person I am, I said ‘no’ and went to get the tin pan out of the oven. The minute I pulled the pan out of the oven it caved in and collapsed all over the floor. All I could do was laugh. We ate it anyway and it was delicious.”

Even though Kayla misses everything about home: her two brothers, her parents, the Jersey Shore, and her friends, Kayla knows that this move was exactly what she needed. “I’m an Italian country singer from New Jersey, that’s what makes me different,” smiles Kayla. Excited about continuing this journey, the dynamic vibrant country songstress is underway in making all of her dreams come true.

Little Jimmy Dickens in 1955 - Music Charts Magazine - Obituary - Grand Ole Opry LegendJames Cecil Dickens (December 19, 1920 – January 2, 2015), better known as Little Jimmy Dickens, was an American country music singer famous for his humorous novelty songs, his small size, 4’11” (150 cm), and his rhinestone-studded outfits (which he is given credit for introducing into country music live performances). He started as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1948 and became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1983. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Born in Bolt, West Virginia, Dickens began his musical career in the late 1930s, performing on WJLS radio station in Beckley, West Virginia while attending West Virginia University. He soon quit school to pursue a full-time music career, and traveled the country performing on various local radio stations under the name “Jimmy the Kid.”

Dickens was hospitalized after a stroke on December 25, 2014, days after his last appearance on the Opry to mark his birthday. He died of cardiac arrest on January 2, 2015, at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife, Mona Dickens, whom he married in 1971, and two daughters, Pamela Detert and Lisa King. After his funeral on January 8, 2015 at the Grand Ole Opry House, Dickens was entombed in the Cross Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Nashville.

Adam Schroeder - Lets - Music Charts Magazine® Album Review by Benjamin Franklin VDate = 7 July 2014

Artist’s name = Adam Schroeder

Genre = Jazz

Title = Let’s

Record company = Capri

Review =

Relatively new to the scene though clearly accomplished, baritone saxophonist Adam Schroeder plays tunes he wrote and relatively obscure compositions by others. This variety is evident on Let’s, his second CD, where he is accompanied by guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist John Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton.

A Schroeder original, “The Smulyan Spectacles” refers to baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan. Listeners familiar with his recordings will largely know what to expect from Schroeder: attractive ballads and swingers in the bebop tradition. Two compositions illustrate the scope of Schroeder’s music. A blues, the gritty “A Hawkeye, a Hoosier, & Two Cali Cats” is moderately up tempo. All the musicians solo on this toe-tapping performance. “Contemplation (Intro)” is its antithesis. The shortest selection (1:40) and classical in nature, this baritone saxophone-arco bass duet is played way down tempo, without improvisation. Though the two musicians interpret a score, inventiveness emerges from the appealing, mellow sounds the two deep instruments produce. This is, to me, the prettiest performance on Let’s Go. The title begs a question: If this brief number is the introduction to a larger piece titled “Contemplation,” what is the nature of the rest of it? Is it written for a quartet? An orchestra? Some other configuration? Does it allow for improvisation? If the remainder is as striking as the introduction, I hope Schroeder will record it.

In addition to his creations, Schroeder includes a tune by Stevie Wonder, two standards, and three jazz pieces. Wonder’s “You & I” is a pretty ballad. “Wrap Your Troubles in Deams” and Sam Coslow’s “In the Middle of a Kiss” are the two standards, though the latter is played so rarely that it hardly qualifies as such. I find Thad Jones’s “Let’s” the least rewarding of the compositions by jazz musicians. The other two constitute highlights. Recorded initially on Donald Byrd’s Blue Note album The Cat Walk (1961), with the composer on piano, Duke Pearson’s catchy “Hello Bright Sunflower” is somewhat reminiscent of “Lullaby of Broadway.” It deserves to be better known than it is. Schroeder’s version progresses in fits and starts and has solos by all the musicians. Jeff Hamilton’s brush work is especially impressive. As sprightly as “Hello Bright Sunflower,” Benny Carter’s “Southside Samba” primarily features Schroeder, though Wilson also solos. In performing these three tunes by jazz musicians, Schroeder demonstrates his familiarity with a wide range of jazz recordings and adeptness at identifying neglected ones.

Let’s seemingly offers something for everybody: brisk performances and slow ones, a short classical piece, original compositions, and works by others. Though the music is played in a familiar style, the selections are not well known, with the exceptions of “You & I” and “Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams.” In sum, this is impressive music by an instrumentalist still early in his career.
