Music Charts Magazine - NEW DISCOVERY - Veronica Ballestrini - Featuring song "Cookies and Cream" - Photo by: Mackenzie Laroe - August 2014Music Charts Magazine® Presents – “NEW DISCOVERY” – “Veronica Ballestrini“- for the month of August 2014.

Looking for some “New” music to add to your player and can’t find anything that blows you away?

Check out this Music Charts Magazine® “NEW DISCOVERY” Interview with “Veronica Ballestrini” and be prepared to be excited knowing there is still 100% awesome music out there that you still have not heard.

After you listen to this great radio interview pasted below of “Veronica Ballestrini” we are sure you will be glad you found this “New Discovery” and Veronica’s song “Cookies and Cream” to add to your music playlist.

Veronica Ballestrini learned early on the value of our modern social media phenomenon. Over the last several years, in fact, her fan base has exploded exponentially, spreading to all corners of the globe.

With one modest dream and an Internet connection, the enthusiastic yet mature-beyond-her-years singer from Waterford, Connecticut, has raised more than a few eyebrows with her self-made success story.  as Jon Caramanica wrote in the New York Times, “… When someone like Ms. Ballestrini arrives essentially unannounced and begins to attract attention, it’s significant.” The staggering numbers on her social network sites are proof that Veronica has that special ability to connect with people. She has amassed more than 4 million views of her videos on YouTube, and her online fans and followers number well into the hundreds of thousands.

Veronica’s 2009 debut album, What I’m All About, capably demonstrated her unique take on the modern Pop-Country sound.Veronica Ballestrini - Music Charts Magazine's New Discovery for the month of August 2014 - Photo by: Mackenzie Laroe She released three singles and videos from the record (“Amazing,” “Out There Somewhere,” “Don’t Say”), propelling her into the consciousness of Country music fans around the globe and earning more than a million views of her videos on CMT.com alone.

“It makes my soul happy to know that music music has affected someone’s life for the better. Some of these songs I have written at my lowest times, feeling alone and broken. It’s good to know we’re not alone in these moments. To be able to reach people through music is something special. In 2011, Veronica began work on her Gotta Make A Change project, a process that set in motion her inspirational “Gotta Make A Change” tour. Throughout the summer, Veronica performed shows at various camps, festivals, Girl Scout events and women’s correctional facilities across the U.S. to help spread the project’s motivational message.

“Life is full of struggles. We stumble, we fall down, and in those moments we feel we will never get up again,” Veronica says “Sometimes all it takes is one person to say or do something to help you to see life in a new perspective and inspire you to get up and make a change. Life will never be pain free, we just have to learn to embrace the pain and find strength.”

Veronica released two singles in 2012 titled “Temporary Fix” and “Don’t Give Up On Me”. The music videos combined garnered over 1.5 million views on YouTube.

Ballestrini spent most of 2013 on tour with Secondhand Serenade, Alex Goot, and ‘The Voice’ singer Juliette Simms. and traveled around the country with the ‘Fiesta Movement’ representing Ford. Veronica shot a car commercial for the Fiesta, where her duet with Secondhand Serenade titled “La La Love” is featured.

Veronica Ballestrini - Music Charts Magazine's New Discovery for August 2014 - Photo by: Mackenzie LaroeThe last three years Veronica has been writing songs for her new project. As she says in her own words “I wanted this new album to perfectly reflect what I’ve been up to… It has been a crazy ride, there have been many ups and downs. My happiness and heartbreak wrote this album.” Her sophomore album “Flip Side” is set to release June 17th, 2014, produced by Brandon Metcalf at Destiny Nashville. The first single off of the album is “Cookies and Cream”. Veronica’s most focused and polished effort to date.  “Cookies and Cream” reflects Veronica’s growth as a more mature singer and a more seasoned songwriter. It’s a process that she acknowledges is a natural evolution in her artistry.

“I’ve been hurt, I’ve been broken, I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve also had the best days ever, and I’ve written songs about all these times” Veronica says. “I am excited to share what I’ve been up to. I’m writing from my heart about issues and things I’ve experienced, and hopefully people can identify with that.”

George Riddle - left - and George Jones - rightMusic Charts Magazine remembers George Riddle.  (September 1, 1935 – July 19, 2014)

Patsy Cline’s husband, Charlie Dick introduced me to George Riddle several months ago and it was such a pleasure to meet a man who had lived such an interesting musical history.  From eating with Patsy Cline the morning of her plane crash and being a family friend to how he met George Jones and became Jones’s tenor singer.  It was a honor to know George Riddle and an honor to have him interview with us here at Music Charts Magazine in 2014.  We are unsure but this may have been George Riddle’s last interview.  Listen as Big Al Weekley talks with George Riddle and they both remember the great  George Jones.  You can also hear George Riddle in Part 2 of the Patsy Cline documentary at Music Charts Magazine’s website.

I hope you enjoy this interview with George Riddle as much as we enjoyed speaking with him.  We will remember you George Riddle.

The Hotdisc chart is compiled from DJs and industry professionals’ ratings of songs currently being promoted on the Rush Released CD. They are not airplay charts, as airplay charts cannot work in Europe because there are no terrestrial country stations. The hundreds of country programmes on air which we service are likely to play a particular song only twice at most in a three month period, therefore rendering airplay charts insignificant in Europe. It works well in America where there are plenty of non-stop country stations but it does not work here. Any Airplay Chart you may see claiming to provide this service is bogus and Hotdisc does not condone these charts at all. They are misleading at best for the reasons stated.

The Hotdisc charts are put together weekly using ratings supplied by DJs who give scores to every song on the last three months’ editions of Rush Released. The scores are averaged out per week to give an accurate guide to the songs which are being championed by the industry. The aim is to showcase the songs which the industry professionals are flagging up as quality songs. This is a very useful exercise as it is free of politics, hype and rigging and done solely on merit!

Holly Hofmann - Low Life - 2014 - Jazz - A CD review by Benjamin Fanklin V of Music Charts MagazineDate = 20 July 2014

Artist’s name = Holly Hofmann

Genre = Jazz

Title = Low Life: The Alto Flute Project

Record company = Capri

Review =

Veteran flautist Holly Hofmann recently participated in two adventuresome recordings. She appears as soloist on Ali Ryerson’s Game Changer, a CD of music performed by a band of flautists (nineteen of them, including guests) plus rhythm section. Hofmann plays C flute on this 2012 release. (A review is available at http://www.musicchartsmagazine.com/ali-ryerson-game-changer-review-by-benjamin-franklin-v-of-music-charts-magazine-tm/.) The other session is one she led. Apparently recorded in 2013 (I say apparently because the CD identifies the recording date as 18 December 2014, which has not yet arrived), Low Life showcases Hofmann with a trio (sometimes a quartet) and playing alto flute exclusively.

Though C flute is her primary instrument, Hofmann has featured alto flute occasionally. The latter has a mellower sound and more limited range than the former. As a result, performances on alto flute typically convey warmth and avoid displays of virtuosity. A complete CD of such music risks causing boredom because of sonic uniformity.

Hofmann attempts to solve this problem in various ways: by playing unison lines with guitarist Anthony Wilson, who appears on four selections and who wrote one of them, “Jack of Hearts”; by soloing only with the accompaniment of pianist Mike Wofford; by letting others solo, especially Wilson and Wofford; by adding a percussive element by having drummer Jeff Hamilton engage in four-bar exchanges with other instrumentalists; and by performing at various tempos, from the slow “The Very Thought of You” (the only standard played here) and her own “Lumière de la Vie” to the middle-groove “Cedar Would,” composed by bassist John Clayton, and the funky “Soul-Leo,” by the late pianist Mulgrew Miller. In other words, she did all she could to add texture to her music.

An interpretation of Pat Metheny’s “Farmer’s Trust” concludes the CD. Hofmann declares that she recorded this piece because her live performances of it moved some listeners to tears. Her lovely and emotional version of it on Low Life makes her claim believable.  She states the melody and is the only soloist, though Wilson is much in evidence, both when performing in unison with her and when playing behind her solo.

Hofmann creates appealing music throughout this CD. The question becomes: Should she record another alto flute album? This is up to her and her producer, but I think that unless she can conceive of additional ways to add variety to her performances she might best be advised to feature the instrument on a track or two on subsequent releases and let Low Life stand as her sole but impressive all-alto flute album.

Johnny Winter Obituary at Music Charts MagazineJohn Dawson Winter III (February 23, 1944 – July 16, 2014), known as Johnny Winter, was an American blues guitarist, singer, and producer. Best known for his high-energy blues-rock albums and live performances in the late 1960s and ’70s, Winter also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters. After his time with Waters, Winter recorded several Grammy-nominated blues albums. In 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and in 2003, he was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.

Winter, along with his musician brother Edgar (born 1946), were nurtured at an early age by their parents in musical pursuits. Johnny and his brother, both of whom were born with albinism, began performing at an early age. When he was ten years old, Winter appeared on a local children’s show, playing ukulele and singing Everly Brothers songs with his brother.

His recording career began at the age of fifteen, when his band Johnny and the Jammers released “School Day Blues” on a Houston record label. During this same period, he was able to see performances by classic blues artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Bobby Bland. In the early days Winter would sometimes sit in with Roy Head and the Traits when they performed in the Beaumont, Texas area, and in 1967, Winter recorded a single with the Traits: “Tramp” backed with “Parchman Farm” (Universal Records 30496). In 1968, he released his first album The Progressive Blues Experiment, on Austin’s Sonobeat Records.

Winter was professionally active until up to the time of his death in Zurich, Switzerland, on 16 July 2014. He died in his hotel two days after his last performance, at the Cahors Blues Festival in France on July 14. The cause of Winter’s death was not clear. He was scheduled to begin a United States tour beginning August 1, 2014 at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury in Westbury, New York. His newest album, Step Back (which features stars including Eric Clapton, ZZ Top rocker Billy Gibbons and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry), not yet released, is scheduled for release on September 2, 2014.
