Monthly Archives: January 2015
Yesterday Misty was sorting through things
and found our old appointment book dated 1982.
In the back of it I had scribbled down a lot of little “life tips”
that I’d learned over the years.
Misty and I think they helped us, so I pass a few on to you.
Be careful of other people’s pride, even when they are acting stupid.
Give them a graceful way out. Let them save face.
They could turn out to be friends if you get past the first collision.
ON STAGE:
Never audition for an audience.Don’t put yourself on trial.
Be in gentle control. Confidence without arrogance.
Hold some of yourself back. Let your talent come as a surprise.
Be unpredictable.
Cue the audience as to what they like. Laugh tracks do this on TV.
Bring them into the process.
Tell them the story behind the song or something about your life.
Speak more slowly that you may be used to.
Avoid precise speech. Maybe slur a little. Appear relaxed.
Don’t come off as hip or intellectual.
Don’t be slick. Don’t be a threat.
Be likable, pleasant, earthy. Be loose.
Look like you belong wherever you are.
Good posture and walk. Natural gestures.
Develop style… the recognition factor.
Desperation shows.
Inflate the audience. Make them feel good about themselves.
No inside jokes or private laughs with the band.
Do it all over the microphone. Don’t leave them out.
LIFE IN GENERAL:
Don’t let the competition see you as a rival.
Learn from the past but don’t feel guilty about it.
Think about your goals. Picture them.
In a negotiation, the first one to mention money loses.
Experiments have proven that children learn better and faster
surrounded by mirrors and pictures of themselves.
Many entertainers and musicians practice in front of a mirror.
Sometimes it helps to pose your material as socially relevant.
Everybody who ever does anything makes mistakes.
Stupidity is no reason not to be a success. Everybody has it.
Naturally, we couldn’t think of all these things at any one time,
but we drilled them into our brains until it became automatic.
There are more suggestions in the old book,
but I’ll save them for later.

THE HOTDISC BRITISH & IRISH INDEPENDENT TOP 10
|
The Hotdisc chart is compiled from DJs and industry professionals’ ratings of songs currently being promoted on the Rush Released CD. They are not airplay charts, as airplay charts cannot work in Europe because there are no terrestrial country stations. The hundreds of country programmes on air which we service are likely to play a particular song only twice at most in a three month period, therefore rendering airplay charts insignificant in Europe. It works well in America where there are plenty of non-stop country stations but it does not work here. Any Airplay Chart you may see claiming to provide this service is bogus and Hotdisc does not condone these charts at all. They are misleading at best for the reasons stated.
The Hotdisc charts are put together weekly using ratings supplied by DJs who give scores to every song on the last three months’ editions of Rush Released. The scores are averaged out per week to give an accurate guide to the songs which are being championed by the industry. The aim is to showcase the songs which the industry professionals are flagging up as quality songs. This is a very useful exercise as it is free of politics, hype and rigging and done solely on merit!

Paul Revere & the Raiders was an American rock band that saw considerable U.S. mainstream success in the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s. Among their hits were the songs “Kicks” (1966; ranked number 400 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time), “Hungry” (1966), “Him Or Me – What’s It Gonna Be?” (1967) and the Platinum-certified classic #1 single “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)” (1971).
Paul Revere has a style: a sixth sense for pleasing an audience. The magic chemistry of his personality has been a major factor in the Raiders’ rise to popularity; and not by sheer accident. He has created, over a period of time, a highly polished act built on warmth and spontaneity.
Paul has a knack for finding the finest talent and personalities to keep his group a top entertaining act year after year.
The group consists of founding member Paul Revere, Doug Heath (group’s lead guitarist for over 35 years), Ron Foos (bassist for over 35 years), Danny Krause (keyboardist for over 28 years), Darren Dowler (lead vocalist and Vocal Group Hall of Fame inductee) and Tommy Scheckel (drummer and newest member).
Push play on the player below, sit back, and enjoy listening to this wonderful audio interview with award winning DJ Jimmy Jay and the legendary Paul Revere of “Paul Revere and The Raiders”. Paul Revere (January 7, 1938 — October 4, 2014) will be missed and never forgotten. Listen as he tells about stories of his life, career, and the places he’s been and seen. Many thanks to DJ Jimmy Jay from the radio show “Rewind” www.RewindShow.com for allowing Music Charts Magazine® fans to hear this.
Paul Revere organized the Raiders in 1958 in Idaho. A few of the highlights of Paul Revere’s
outstanding career are:
- Paul Revere and the Raiders were the first rock group to be signed with Columbia Records
with the 1963 recording of “Louie Louie”. - In 1965-1966 Paul Revere and the Raiders were featured on the ABC TV five-day-a-week
network show “Where the Action Is” produced by Dick Clark. - Paul Revere and the Raiders appeared on 520 episodes of “Where the Action Is” a network
TV show on ABC. - In 1968 & 1969 Paul Revere co-hosted a weekly ABC TV series, “Happening”
produced by Dick Clark
During their career Paul Revere and The Raiders also had 23 consecutive hit singles!
Some of which include:
Indian Reservation | Kicks |

Ups and Downs | Him or Me – What’s It Gonna Be? |
