The Hotdisc chart is compiled from DJs and industry professionals’ ratings of songs currently being promoted on the Rush Released CD. They are not airplay charts, as airplay charts cannot work in Europe because there are no terrestrial country stations. The hundreds of country programmes on air which we service are likely to play a particular song only twice at most in a three month period, therefore rendering airplay charts insignificant in Europe. It works well in America where there are plenty of non-stop country stations but it does not work here. Any Airplay Chart you may see claiming to provide this service is bogus and Hotdisc does not condone these charts at all. They are misleading at best for the reasons stated.

The Hotdisc charts are put together weekly using ratings supplied by DJs who give scores to every song on the last three months’ editions of Rush Released. The scores are averaged out per week to give an accurate guide to the songs which are being championed by the industry. The aim is to showcase the songs which the industry professionals are flagging up as quality songs. This is a very useful exercise as it is free of politics, hype and rigging and done solely on merit!

A little about Big Al:

This past year Big Al Weekley has continued to grow his Bluegrass listening audience in leaps and bounds. In the fall of 2015 Big Al was promoted to Program Director of WMJD 100.7 FM (Grundy, VA) and 99.3 FM (Skeggs, VA). This allowed him to integrate more Bluegrass music into the stations Country music format.  This has attained WMJD a larger audience and this has given Big Al the ability to educate people not only in Bluegrass music but also in Bluegrass history. He is also the Monday through Friday weekly morning drive time DJ.

The Big Al Bluegrass Show continues to be syndicated on WOTR 96.3 FM (Weston, WV) and KRVN 880 AM (Lexington, NE).

KRVN is the 50,000 Watt torch in the sky that covers the two western trucking corridors and has hosted The Big Al Bluegrass Show for close to two decades. The Big Al Bluegrass Show on KRVN has garnered Big Al with many awards, many good friends and a very loyal listening audience to The Big Al Bluegrass Show in the western United States.

In this past year Big Al Weekly was approached by the Grundy, VA local community theatre. He was asked if he would like to host a live radio show that he had recently started weekly on Thursday nights on WMJD.  He is very involved in the local community. Big Al took the opportunity with open arms and they now have a live show once a month.  This radio show is live music and a live crowd and consists of primarily Bluegrass music with also County and Gospel.  It has become quite an event in the area and now is a packed house every month. Many local and known Bluegrass musicians have attended this live event and it is expected to grow even larger as time moves forward. Grundy is in the heart of the Appalachians and coal country so it’s a great spot for Big Al to be in.

As always Big Al continues to be an asset to all of us at Music Charts Magazine® and our many endeavors.  We are proud that he has already been nominated as one of the IBMA Top Five Bluegrass Broadcasters twice in 2003 and 2014.

Lulu Roman - Hee Haw TV series - Music Charts Magazine® Celebrity Interview

From the famous TV series Hee Haw

Music Charts Magazine®

Presents

“Lulu Roman”

LuLu Roman has enjoyed many successes in her life, but also more than her share of disappointments and hardships. Famous for her side-splitting humor and jovial disposition, a lesser-known story lies behind those clear, radiant eyes, which have often been filled with tears of both pain and joy.

People know LuLu as the most requested female cast member of the long running hit television series, “Hee Haw”. Many know her as the accomplished and celebrated songwriter; and as the singer who has been successfully making records for over 25 years.

Few know that Lulu was born with a thyroid dysfunction in a home for unwed mothers and was soon placed in an orphanage. It was there that her weight problem furthered her pain, preventing her adoption and making her the center of teasing by the other children. It was also during this time that LuLu learned to use her sense of humor as a defense.

That sense of humor later evolved into a highly successful career as an actress and comedienne with a lead role on “Hee Haw.” Success and wealth, however proved poisonous to the actress who began her career in her early twenties. Drug addiction led LuLu on a downward spiral that nearly destroyed her life and her career in 1971.

LuLu’s search for happiness and acceptance, which had almost led her to her personal destruction, instead led her to God. It was her new found faith in God that led her to begin using a talent that had been laying dormant for many years: her voice.

In 1999, LuLu was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame.  In 2002 Lulu’s 16th album, a collection of hits and favorites called “Lulu, Inspired” was nominated for a Dove award.  In 2006, LuLu recorded the song “Orphan Girl” which is the title song of an “Americana” type recording project which features Gospel, Country and Rhythm & Blues.  This almost biographical song has become her signature song and is enjoyed in concerts all over the United States.  Her latest gospel project “Seven Times” has garnered an international hit song, “Do You Know How To Fly”, and is still being shared across the globe. It also features one of the last songs her precious friend Dottie Rambo wrote for her, “Move Upon Us”.

LuLu has just completed a new project entitled “At Last”. The album features 12 of her favorite standards and classics, such as “I Will Always Love You”, “Summertime”, “You Don’t Know Me”, “Til I Can Make It On My Own” and the title song, “At Last”. LuLu’s dear friends Dolly Parton, T. Graham Brown, Linda Davis and Georgette Jones also joined her on the album.

In addition to “Hee Haw”, LuLu has also been a guest star on such television programs as “The Love Boat” and “Touched By An Angel”. She is also an accomplished author. Her most recent work is a cookbook “Kitchen Komforts”.

Although she has been performing for over 40 years, she has no plans to rest or retire. LuLu continues to travel sharing her testimony, her humor and her music.

Thomas Sheffield Bio:

Thomas Sheffield is a young country music artist, who is country to his core. Thomas’s life has revolved around music since he was old enough to talk. Born and raised in a small town in southwest Oklahoma among a huge musical family, that is host to a slew of singers and musicians, he was destined to be on a stage with a microphone in his hand. Throughout his teenage years, he sang all over the state and competed in various competitions statewide, winning several of them. He sang with his family band at numerous events and opry shows. A few years after graduating high school and going on to work for his Dad’s business, he made the decision to uproot from Oklahoma and make the move to Nashville and pursue a career as a country music recording artist. Once he placed his feet on the ground in Music City, he started on that grind that every artist who comes to town ultimately hopes for…landing a record deal…not just yet. He has, however, had the great honor and privilege to have shared the stage and sang with many country greats like, Jimmy Fortune, David Frizzell, Leona Williams, Charlie Louvin, Lorrie Morgan, Earl Thomas Conley, Vern Gosdin and many more. Most recently, he spent a few days on the road with Daryle Singletary’s crew and was honored when Daryle invited him out on stage to sing with him.

Thomas has currently teamed up with a renowned Nashville songwriter/producer and is currently working on his debut EP, which will include 6 tracks and hopes to release it this summer. Thomas says that off the 6 track EP, he believes that, “there is something that everyone will like”. He is excited about this project and can’t wait to share it.

There is no better place for Thomas than being behind a microphone, in any type of setting, singing a country song. This is when he is in his element, just second nature. He says, ” I really feel like I was born to sing and connect with audiences. The heartfelt lyrics of country songs are about our everyday lives that anyone can relate to.” Long-time music professionals have said, “Thomas is superstar material with an amazing vocal, and he absolutely has a place in country music”.

Thomas is pressing onward everyday pursuing his dream of singing and playing. He plans to hit the road once he’s finished recording in the studio to play and sing wherever he can. Stay tuned for the release of his EP this summer; and keep a lookout for Thomas Sheffield performing somewhere near your area! Keepin’ Country…Country.
